Your documents never leave your phone.
Scan by Tathya scans, edits and stores your documents on your device. TathyaLabs does not run a server for the app and never receives your scans, PDFs or the text recognised in them. This policy explains what the app stores and the few times data leaves the app, always because you chose it.

The short version
- No account, no sign-up and no cloud uploads.
- No analytics, no crash-reporting SDK, no ads and no tracking.
- Scans, PDFs and recognised text are created and stored only on your device.
- Documents leave the app only when you share or export them.
What the app stores, and where
Everything is kept in the app's private storage on your device: page images and thumbnails, the PDFs you save, text recognised from pages, document names, folders, favourites, dates and your settings. Unsaved edits are kept in a temporary folder until you save or discard them. TathyaLabs never receives any of this.
Like other app data, this may be included in your phone's own backups (for example iCloud Backup) if you have them turned on. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple or Google; TathyaLabs cannot access them.
Scanning and text recognition
On iPhone, scanning uses Apple's document camera (VisionKit) and text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework. Both run on your device.
On Android, scanning uses the Google ML Kit document scanner provided by Google Play services, and text recognition uses Google ML Kit. They process your pages on your device; the scanner has its own camera access, so Scan by Tathya does not ask for camera permission on Android. Google may download or update these components and may receive technical information about how they perform, under Google's own terms. Your page images and recognised text are not sent to TathyaLabs.
Camera, photos and files
- The camera is used only when you start a scan. The app has no microphone access.
- Importing from Photos uses the system photo picker, so the app receives only the photos you pick and doesn't read the rest of your library.
- Importing from Files reads only the images and PDFs you choose.
- Permission to add to Photos is used only when you choose Save to Photos.
Sharing and exports
When you share a PDF or a page, export your library details (names, folders and dates) as a JSON file, or save pages to Photos, the file goes only where you send it through the system share sheet. TathyaLabs does not receive a copy.
ID cards and other documents are sensitive. Check where you are sending them, and keep your phone protected with a passcode.
Contacting us
If you email us from the app or this website, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use them only to reply. Please don't send us your documents or ID numbers.
Retention and deletion
Your documents stay on your device until you delete them. You can delete a single document, use Settings > Delete all documents, clear temporary files in Settings, or uninstall the app, which removes everything the app stored. Pages you saved to Photos and files you shared stay where you put them.
Children
Scan by Tathya does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
