Quick answers, then back to riyaz.
The app works offline, without an account, and keeps your practice log on your phone. These answers cover the most common questions. Raga Room: Tanpura & Tabla on Google Play and Riyaz by Tathya on the App Store are the same app, and this page covers both.
How do I set my Sa?
Pick the key on the tanpura screen and fine-tune it, or change the default Sa and A4 in Settings. Pick the raag you’re practising and the app suggests the first string, such as Ma for Malkauns.
The music stops when I lock the phone.
It should keep playing. On Android, allow the app’s media notification and don’t restrict its battery use. Turn on Mix with other apps in Settings if another app’s audio stops it.
How do I change the taal or tempo?
Tap a taal chip or open All taals to search all 19. Set the tempo with the slider, the ± buttons or tap tempo, from 10 to 600 BPM, and choose thah, dugun, tigun or chaugun.
How does the riyaz timer count?
It follows the music so a forgotten timer can’t inflate your log: it stops counting when the music has been off for a while and never logs more than 6 hours. You can log or edit sessions by hand for any day of the past year.
How do I move my log to a new phone?
Open Settings › Your data › Export backup (JSON) and send the file to yourself. On the new phone, choose Restore from backup (also on the first screen when you set up the app).
How do I delete my data?
Open Settings and tap Delete all data. Your log, presets and settings are erased from your phone. Deleting the app does the same.
